Become Her: Return to the Rhythm That Is Truly Yours

Coming home to yourself

Have you ever had one of those moments where you suddenly realize the way everyone else seems to move through life doesn’t quite fit you?

Like you’re going through your day, answering messages, getting things done, keeping up with everything, yet somehow still forgetting other things. Your heart rate is up… You need time to recoup… There’s barely a moment to hear yourself think under the noise of responsibilities, expectations, and all the roles you carry. And then a feeling comes over you that rejects this pace and puts it to a halt; you know this isn’t your pace.

You have your own rhythm. Your own timing. Your own way of moving through life.

Notice It in Small Ways

Usually it begins with small things.

  • Maybe you notice that your morning feels much better when you give yourself a few quiet minutes alone, before talking to anyone or before grabbing your phone.

  • Or you realize that some conversations leave you feeling energized and open, while others make you want to go home, make tea, and sit in silence for a while.

  • Some days you feel like creating things, sharing ideas or talking to people.
Other days you just want to think, or write in your journal, or take a stroll somewhere and let your mind wander.

  • And instead of thinking something is wrong with you for changing moods or energy, this might be your rhythm.

Listen to Yourself in a New Way

The more you pay attention, the more you notice that your body is actually very wise.
Your nervous system tells you when something feels safe and when something feels like too much.
Your creativity tells you when it wants to move and your emotions show you what really matters to you.

Even feeling tired is information. It tells you something about how you’ve been living. And when you start responding to those signals with kindness instead of pressure, you relax.

You stop trying to force yourself into a shape that looks impressive. And you start living in a way that actually feels right. Maybe you work when your mind feels clear. Or maybe you take breaks when your focus disappears. And you choose places and people that make you feel calm instead of anxious.

Little by little, something important grows.

Self-trust

Self-trust grows when you start taking your own feelings, instincts and needs seriously. It means believing that the signals inside you are worth listening to, even when the outside world is loud. Every time you pause, listen to yourself, and make a choice that feels right for you, that trust becomes stronger. Over time, it becomes a steady guide through life.

Every time you listen to yourself, you are telling yourself: My voice matters.

Your Energy Has Seasons

One thing that helps a lot is understanding that our energy moves in seasons.

We are expected to be the same every day. Same mood and energy, same productivity. But that’s not how real life works. Your inner world moves in cycles. And once you start noticing those cycles, things begin to make much more sense.

Expansion season

There are times when you feel very open to the world. Your ideas come easily. You enjoy being around people, and you feel confident sharing what you think. This is when your energy wants to move outward. You feel creative. You feel brave. This is your expansion season.

Depth season

Then there are moments when your energy naturally turns inward. You feel more thoughtful and reflective. You start thinking about your direction, your desires, your next steps. Maybe you spend more time alone. Maybe you write more. Or maybe you listen more carefully to your intuition. This is your depth season.

And it’s incredibly valuable, because this is where clarity grows.

Renewal season

And sometimes your system simply needs to reset. You might feel more sensitive. You may want more rest, more quiet, more nature. At first it can feel like nothing is happening. But actually something important is happening beneath the surface. Your system is now reorganizing; old layers are settling and new ideas are slowly forming. This is your renewal season; often the beginning of something new.

Living in a Way That Matches Your Energy

When you start respecting your rhythm, your life slowly begins to change in small, practical ways.

  • You might stop filling every empty space in your schedule.

  • You might create little rituals that help you feel calm: a slow morning, an evening walk, writing a few thoughts in your journal, or sitting quietly with a warm drink.

  • You might even start choosing clothes that match how you feel instead of how you think you should look.

These things may seem small, but together they change something important. Your outer life starts to reflect your inner world. And when that happens, things begin to fall into place.

You feel steady.

You feel like yourself.

How to Return to Your Own Rhythm

If you feel like you’ve lost your rhythm, don’t worry. It’s still there.
You just need to make space to hear it again. Here are a few simple steps that can help.

1. Start your day quietly

Before you check your phone or jump into the day, give yourself a few calm minutes. Breathe, stretch, or just sit quietly.

2. Notice your energy during the day

When do you feel focused? When do you feel tired? Your rhythm is already showing itself through your energy.

3. Listen to your body

If something feels heavy or draining, pause for a moment.

4. Protect your energy

Not every place, person, or commitment deserves your time. Choose environments that feel supportive.

5. Allow different seasons

Some weeks you feel social and productive. Other weeks you want quiet and reflection. Both are normal.

6. Create small rituals

Simple things like walking, journaling, meditation, or drinking tea slowly can help your nervous system relax.

7. Trust your timing

Your life does not have to move at the same speed as everyone else’s. Your rhythm is enough.

Interestingly, this idea of finding your own rhythm also appears in pop culture. Many women artists express their rhythm through creativity. Each of them shows a different way of moving through the world.

Women’s rhythm in Pop Culture

In contemporary pop culture, many women share stories about finding their own rhythm. Through music, film, television, and art, they explore what it means to discover their voice, define their identity, and claim creative freedom. A few of my favourite women are up next:

Solange Knowles

Rhythm: Radical Artistic Independence.

With her album A Seat at the Table, Solange created a deeply personal sonic and visual world about Black womanhood, healing, and self-definition. She rejected mainstream pop formulas and built her own slow, poetic, spiritual rhythm.

Solange’s music often feels spacious, especially with soft vocals and pauses. Silence and space become part of the rhythm that comes through in her art.

Solange is deeply involved in the visual, musical, and conceptual direction of her work. Her rhythm therefore extends beyond music into multidisciplinary art practice.

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter

Rhythm: Cyclical Transformation.

Beyoncé is one of the clearest contemporary examples of a woman who continually reinvents her rhythm. Each album arrives as a new creature, a new archetype, a new energetic frequency.

She does not remain in one identity or aesthetic. Instead, she moves in waves: creation → embodiment → destruction → rebirth. Her rhythm is metamorphosis.

Beyoncé creates worlds and ritualizes them. Each era has its own universe of imagery, fashion, sound, colors and symbolism. Her rhythm extends beyond music as well. We have seen the film footage of all the work she put in the production of her worlds. She shapeshifts through archetypes: the lover, the warrior, the mother, the priestess. Then she disappears.
Silence becomes part of her rhythm. This creates anticipation.

Her silence helps turn each return into an event. Because Beyoncé disappears between eras, she creates mystery and distance. That distance gives her work a mythic quality: she no longer feels like an artist simply releasing music, but like a figure who reappears in new forms, each time carrying a new world of meaning.

Her rhythm is therefore a deliberate cycle in which she periodically sheds her previous form and returns as something new.

Issa Rae

Rhythm: Honest Self-discovery.

Issa Rae began her career with authentic storytelling. She created the web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. At the time, television rarely showed Black women as complex, awkward, thoughtful, and relatable characters. Instead of waiting for permission, she created her own space online. This is an important part of her rhythm.

Issa Rae’s show Insecure explores the messy journey of finding one's career, one’s voice, friendships, and love life.
Issa literally raps to herself in the mirror, which is also a metaphor for finding your rhythm.

The rhythm of Issa Rae is the rhythm of honest self-discovery. Issa Rae’s power lies in showing the unfinished process of becoming.

Her rhythm is also about awkwardness, humor, self-reflection, and gradual alignment. That’s why her storytelling feels so real. Beyond telling stories about self-discovery, Issa Rae also created the space for those stories to exist. By building her own platform and portraying the ordinary, messy, and humorous parts of life, she shows that becoming yourself is not a single moment but an ongoing process.

A Woman Who Feels at Home in Herself

A woman who knows her own rhythm moves through life differently.

She respects her need for rest. She expresses herself when the moment feels right. She allows her life to unfold in a way that feels natural and sustainable. There is a calmness around her, because she is no longer fighting her own nature. She is simply living in it.

At Haus of Healing we call this Becoming HER.

Not becoming someone new, but returning to the woman who has always been there. The woman who trusts her timing, listens to her inner voice, and moves through life in her own rhythm.

And when you reach that place, life begins to feel lighter.
Because you are no longer trying to live someone else’s rhythm.

You are living yours.

And that is Becoming HER.

Love,
Gloria
